The VJRR was built to support an operating scheme utilizing waybills, fast clock/schedule and dispatcher control. The railroad runs point-to-point with interchanges with the Boston & Maine on the east end and Central Vermont on the west end. Off scene stagging allows for “beyond-the-basement” operations. The layout is in New Hampshire in 1960. Crew size is eight: two-yard masters, branch line operator, four main line crews and a dispatcher. Track is hand laid, and all passing sidings and junctions are signaled. The dispatcher controls all main line turnouts while local turnout control is manual. Communication between the dispatcher and crew utilizes radios. Train power uses NCE DCC with corded and radio throttles.
