The Pepperell Southeastern Railroad is the continuation of over 60 years of Lionel tradition. Like many Lionel collections, it began with a postwar starter set under the Christmas tree with a 4’x8′ layout following soon after. *Unlike* most collections, that very same 4’x8′ sheet of plywood from the 1960s is still at the heart of the layout… Albeit with a few additions over the years! This sense of continuity and home built ingenuity are what make the Pepperell Southeastern so special. Many of the accessories on the layout are not Lionel original, but actually scratch built replicas. Our saying around the layout is ‘If it isn’t plastic, Grandpa probably built it.’ To only the most keen of Lionel collectors, his work is indistinguishable and all still works to this very day. This work not only inspired his grandson’s (Scott, current layout owner) degree in Mechanical Engineering, but also inspires the next generation of custom building with the layout’s current iteration and the rise of home 3d printing. The Pepperell Southeastern is the 4th iteration of this collection. Roughly T-shaped, it is 16’x4′ with a 6’x~12′ base.
