The Bangor and Aroostook Railroad (the “BAR”) served northern Maine from 1894 through 2003. Its largest source of revenue for most of that time was shipping potatoes grown in northern Maine. Until 1957, Maine was the largest potato growing state in the union. The potato industry and the related BAR, MEC, B&M and other northern railroad activities and facilities related to these shipments will be featured in this clinic.
