Many of us old-timers, especially if you model the logging industry, remember Keystone Locomotive Works as the premier supplier of locomotive, car, and structure kits and parts. Linda Tompkins-Mortinsen is Keystone Locomotive Works. Linda plans to talk about what goes into making a kit or RTR item from the first inspiration when you see something and decide to make it through the steps to have it in the box to ship. She is planning to bring examples of rubber molds and patterns, dies for plastic injection molded pieces and examples of laser cut wood and brass etched pieces to demonstrate how some methods give much more detail than others. She can also discuss other methods of manufacturing that she doesn’t use, at least not yet, and the advantages of each.
