Walter has spent the past few Springs driving West, to railfan and explore. In 2024, he spent four days in Truckee, and pored over the Transcontinental Railroad’s Crossing of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The highlight was supposed to be walking the original 1868 tunnels through Donner Pass, but as so often happens up there, his efforts were thwarted by SNOW! But it was still worth it! The Donner Pass tunnels, Bloomer Cut, Norden, Colfax and the California Railroad Museum are among the stops. Obsessed, he returned in 2025 and finally beat the snow to walk through the tunnels.
