Photo above: NYO&W Extra 20 South (above) leaves the siding at Walton NY after meeting northbound passenger train number 3 currently at the station. The southbound freight will stop after clearing the siding to allow the rear brakeman to align and lock the switch normal. Per Rule 92, number 3 will wait until its scheduled departure time before continuing north.

The real-world NYO&W shut-down completely in March 1957 and was mostly abandoned. This model version of the railroad is based on a remnant of the NYO&W, from Middletown, NY to Sidney, NY, that was purchased by an investor group to keep that segment open. The track plan is based on Whit Towers’ Alturas and Lone Pine. The single track mainline is 2.57 scale miles long between yard limits. There are 16 mainline train movements during an op session. Included are 6 passenger runs, 4 thru freights, local freights, yard work, and a transfer run from Maybrook Yard. A 4:1 fast clock is used.
