The New York Museum of Transportation (NYMT) houses fourteen full size trolley cars, a caboose, steam locomotive, antique highway and horse-drawn vehicles, and the various associated smaller items that illuminate the transportation history of Upstate New York and the surrounding area. An 11′ x 21′ HO-scale model railroad operates five trains and two trolleys at one time.
The NYMT operates the only electric trolley ride in New York State. The 20-minute, 2-mile round trip ride aboard a 1920’s era trolley brings back the interurban era of a century ago. You’ll hear the clickety-clack on the rail joints and toots from the air whistle at grade crossings, as you travel to Midway Station.
There, the conductor will reverse the poles on the car for the return trip through the beautiful Genesee Valley countryside. Trolleys depart promptly at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30. The museum closes at 4:00, so remember to arrive early enough to enjoy the full museum experience.
On Sunday, September 22, convention attendees will receive a $3 discount off the $10 adult admission when presenting their Lakeshores’24 badge.

The Fairport, NY Train Viewing Platform is a Virtual Railfan camera site located where the single track CSX West Shore Line, which bypasses the City of Rochester, unites with the double track CSX/Amtrak mainline, part of the former New York Central Water Level Route. Around 40 to 45 trains per day pass by the Viewing Platform, which is open 24/7.
A short walk from the Viewing Platform is Mac’s Philly Steaks, a Lakeshores’24 sponsor offering discounts to those NMRA members attending the convention.
