Railfanning Palmer

Clinician: Mike Tylick, MMR

Room: Palmer, Ma
Thu, 1:30 pm -
4:00 pm

Mike will conduct a railfan clinic in nearby Palmer, Mass. We will meet Mike in the parking lot of the Steaming Tender Restaurant which is located in the restored old railroad station (28 Depot St., Palmer, MA). This is a great site for railfanning as the CSXT, New England Central (former Central Vermont Railway), Amtrak, and Mass Central lines run right by the parking lot. Palmer is a major interchange point between the several railroads and has hosted as many as seven different railroads in the past. For those wishing to remain later in the day, the Steaming Tender Restaurant opens at four PM. It is located in the former Palmer Union Station which is steeped in railroad atmosphere and has good food at reasonable prices. The area has easy parking, is quite safe, and friendly to rail buffs.

There are many possible photo locations nearby as well. Mike Tylick, MMR will be there to share tips on railfan courtesy and photography of 1:1 scale trains, which he considers more difficult than model photography. It’s a bit like fishing but will a little luck there will be some railroad action to photograph so be sure to bring your camera and scanner for this one.
