This clinic describes the Warbonnet paint scheme that was introduced in 1937 and illustrates the locomotives that were made famous by this unforgettable design. The Warbonnet colors of red, yellow, and black were applied to various diesel models from Alco and EMD, but the clinic’s focus is on the EMD F7. With a major assist from Lionel in 1947, Santa Fe’s F7s were destined to become the most recognizable locos in all of railroading. This clinic also includes images of the glamorous Santa Fe passenger trains that utilized the Warbonnet theme to promote “The Great Southwest.” While the clinic’s concentration is on prototypes, a sampling of model locomotives and passenger trains rounds out the presentation.
